Waterloo Bridge was gridlocked with nose-to-tail double decker buses after emergency services were called to treat an injured cyclist nearby.

Police and paramedics received reports of a "cyclist down" on the road near the bridge shortly before 6pm on Tuesday.

The male cyclist is believed to have collided with the rear of a van, police said.

Waterloo Bridge was closed northbound sparking traffic chaos in the area. Pictures shared on social media showed more than 20 double decker buses lined up along the bridge at a standstill.
