Westfield Stratford City: Shopping centre placed in lock down after security alert

Westfield shopping centre in east London was in lock down this morning after a security alert.

Police confirmed they were dealing with a suspicious vehicle by the centre near the Olympic Park in Stratford at around 10am.

The incident was stood down later this morning, according to police.

Witnesses had reported being "locked in" the shopping centre.

One tweeted: "Stuck inside Westfield Stratford because of security alert. Costa is keeping calm and playing ambient Christmas music.

Another Twitter user wrote: "Stratford Station is now closed and Westfield Stratford has been evacuated."

Another posted: "Anyone know whats going on at Stratford station as its all taped off? Apparently westfield is too?"

Transport for London said the station re-opened at around 10.30.
