A woman is fighting for life in hospital after she reportedly fell from a building during a house fire in south-east London.

Police, paramedics and fire crews were scrambled to the scene in Poplar Place, Thamesmead, on Thursday evening.

The 57-year-old woman was rushed to an east London hospital with injuries police believe were sustained after falling from a building that caught fire.

She remains in critical condition following the incident shortly before 5.30pm.

Pictures from the scene show emergency services vehicles on the street, which had been cordoned off.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at approximately 5.25pm on Thursday to a fire at a residential address on Poplar Place.

“The woman remains in a critical condition. Enquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing.”
