Andrew Mitchell and his troublesome bike - again

5 February 2013

Andrew Mitchell intends to sue the Sun over its reports that he called police “plebs” when they tried to stop him cycling through the Downing Street gates. So let’s hope this new tale about the former Chief Whip and his bicycle is less controversial.

Mitchell was seen last week in Lexington Street heading into Andrew Edmunds. Unfortunately, he seemed to have forgotten a lock for his bike and so tried to wedge it “safely” behind the tables and chairs outside the Soho restaurant.

An onlooker observed that it all became rather slapstick. Mitchell managed to get the bike in but in doing so blocked the entrance to the restaurant. A helpful member of staff came to his rescue and offered to park his bike in the backyard, to which Mitchell is reported to have said: “Thank you.”
