Angela Merkel has murder in mind

Midsomer Murders is moving to Copenhagen for a one-off edition, and Borgen star Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, who appears in tonight’s special and is in Coriolanus at the Donmar, has said the programme is “more popular at home than The Killing”. It is also rather popular in Germany, especially in the home of Angela Merkel.

The German Chancellor is coming to London soon to visit David Cameron, and The Londoner wondered if the PM might smoothe Euro-relations by inviting John Nettles, who played original Midsomer Murders detective Tom Barnaby, for tea during the visit. Rumours of a meeting arose in 2011 but to no avail, and Nettles’s agent says he is still waiting for the call. “No one has approached us,” he says. But hope of a match made in surreal heaven should not be abandoned. “If she is a fan, I’m sure he’d be delighted to meet her,” he adds.
