BBC is getting rid of its books

22 November 2012

Has anyone in Lancashire got an empty barn? Now that the BBC has moved from London to Salford, you might think it would have more room for its books, not less, but not so. The BBC is disposing of 80,000 books because it doesn’t have space.

Volumes on broadcasting will be kept, and those belonging to the Music Library, but there’s no room for general interest titles. These include fiction, travel guides, autobiographies and encyclopedias previously available on loan from the library at Television Centre. Some think it would be a pity to get rid of some of the BBC’s more lavish publications such as David Attenborough’s The Blue Planet or David Dimbleby’s The Seven Ages of Britain.
