Former Life Guards officer Rupert Uloth recalls in Country Life how he recently attended a drinks party in the House of Commons to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his Sandhurst year’s commission into the Army. It was well attended but ironically the only politician eligible to turn up was barred.

Step forward Eric Joyce, colourful Labour MP (until he was suspended last year). A one-time private in the Black Watch and officer in the Royal Army Educational Corps, Joyce has previous for some of his antics in the House.
