Double life of the man from the Church Times

At the Church Times, following last week’s Synod vote against female bishops, there is an air of après le déluge. The weekly’s media critic, Andrew Brown, who is normally withering about tabloids, notes with surprise that much of Fleet Street reacted like adults to the Synod vote. Brown noted that one commentator got carried away by writing “I think I have just seen the Church of England commit suicide.” What he omits to say is that the author of that shroud-waving article which mentioned suicide was the Guardian’s comment is free belief editor — the very same Andrew Brown.
