Elton and David go under the hammer

The Londoner dropped into Christie’s last night for a different sort of auction. It was the Terrence Higgins Trust annual bash, and up for grabs were not Old Masters but national treasures Elton John and David Furnish. They were offering a tour through their home, in return for donations to the charity.

Tracey Emin phoned in to apologise for not being there — she’s on holiday in the US. “I normally donate one of my neons,” she told the auctioneer, “but my neon press is sitting on the beach with me.”

But all eyes were on Jerry Hall and evolutionary biologist Armand Leroi, now thought to be a couple. They were seen gazing at a pair of bespoke rings by Tateossian but left the event immediately after they were sold to another buyer.
