Betty Trask award-winning author Elizabeth Day has revealed how times have changed in the publishing world since her first novel Scissors Paper Stone came out two years ago. At the launch of her latest, Home Fires, in Lincoln’s Inn last night, she said her last book was filed in Waterstones next to novels by Jonathan Dee and Lydia Davis. “This time, I’m next to Sylvia Day, who writes erotic fiction similar to Fifty Shades of Grey,” she said.

An admirer told how Liz’s career almost ended over a column she wrote at the age of 12 for the Derry Journal: “She wrote an enthusiastic piece about Prince Charles but it didn’t go down well. The column was dropped.”
