The Londoner packed an apple in a knapsack at the weekend and headed to Oxfordshire’s Wilderness festival — and who should we find among the hay bales but six actors, like a cast in search of a play. From left to right, there was Luke Treadaway, Holliday Grainger, Douglas Booth, Harry Treadaway, Gemma Chan and Sam Reid.

An English picnicking vibe was created by sponsors Mulberry but Chan was misty-eyed for France — she has just returned from filming Belles Familles in Paris.

“There’s something about the style of cinema there that makes it stand out from the rest of the world,” she explained.“Most importantly, they feed you properly. Every lunchtime the cast and crew sit down for a full four-course meal, with glasses of wine and cheese. They’d go on strike if you didn’t do that. In England you get some vegetables in a polystyrene box. It’s so depressing.”
