From Fulham to Mogadishu: the Master Chef in The Village

Forget MasterChef. One Londoner is trying to use his skills as a chef to help bring peace to Somalia. Aidan Hartley’s Unreported World documentary on Channel 4 this Friday, The Master Chef of Mogadishu, follows British Somali Ahmed Jama, who runs The Village in Fulham Palace Road, as he returns to his birthplace to open a chain of restaurants.

In September, suicide bombers struck at a restaurant Jama owns in Somalia, also called The Village, and he has faced death threats from Islamist militants. But he staunchly continues to provide employment and food for the people of Mogadishu. “I’m not a politician but I prefer to show that if we have peace and we come back here, we can have a successful life and a beautiful country.” Just like Fulham Palace Road, then.
