News producers for Thailand’s Channel 5 have apologised for showing a picture of actress Meryl Streep while reporting the death of Margaret Thatcher. For nearly two minutes, Mrs Thatcher’s biography was displayed alongside a picture of Streep in character in The Iron Lady.

Meanwhile, a Taiwanese news station mistakenly showed footage of the Queen while reporting the Thatcher story. CTi Cable flashed the headline “Margaret Thatcher Dies of Stroke” followed by two clips of Her Majesty shaking hands with the public. The station has apologised after viewers criticised the station for failing to distinguish between the women.
