Gordon Brown is excelling himself on the world stage

5 November 2013

Gordon Brown is doing very well for a self-confessed “ex-politician”. According to the updated register of MPs’ financial interests, the former PM has recently earned £292,801.82 through his posts plus speechmaking activities. He and his staff also received £56,704.60 in international travel and hotel expenses.

The bulk of Brown’s latest extra-parliamentary income — £126,516.08 — was derived from giving one speech in Monaco and two in New York.

A further £123,846.68 came from his post as Distinguished Global Leader in Residence at New York University.

Another £42,439.06 was to cover Brown’s staff and research bill in his role as chairman of the World Economic Forum policy co-ordination group.

Brown makes clear under each entry: “I am not receiving any money from this engagement personally. It is being held by the Office of Gordon and Sarah Brown for the employment of staff to support my ongoing involvement in public life.”
