Heat warms to Louise Mensch’s Beauty

Louise Mensch was tweeting about her new novel, Beauty, yesterday, exclaiming her glee at a review in Heat magazine, writing: “Thank you to Heat magazine for review, ‘couldn’t put it down’.”

The Londoner put down its copy of the Spectator and picked up Heat for the first time and was puzzled to find three stars and an only moderate appraisal. While Beauty is noted as “a lot of fun”, the critic also says of the main character: “There are only so many times they can describe how beautiful she is before you start wanting to yank her perfectly blow-dried hair out”.

The novel is Mensch’s first not under her maiden name of Bagshawe and focuses on a British blonde who moves to New York. Apparently, the similarities between herself and the character Dina end there.
