Heckles rule at the LSE

1 February 2013

LSE economics professor and climate change expert Lord Stern was hoist with his own petard last night at the launch of the LSE Growth Commission Report. Asked a question from the audience, he started his reply with “That was a question from one of my best-ever students ...” only to be interrupted by the questioner, “Yes, one of your many failures ...”

Responding to a point that, at just 35 pages, the LSE Growth Commission Report was very brief, Lord Stern responded: “Well, my climate change report went to more than 700 pages — and I don’t think many people read it.”

Lord Stern is a nephew of the late Donald Swann of Flanders & Swann fame, which makes him a relation, by duet, of Stephanie Flanders, the BBC’s economics editor.
