Help at hand for Sajid Javid

The art world has not exactly shown enthusiasm for new Culture Secretary Sajid Javid, with many questioning the avid Star Trek fan’s grasp of the more refined parts of the portfolio. But help may be at hand for Javid in the form of Pain in the Arts, a book by former Barbican director John Tusa.

Publisher IB Tauris promises “an excoriating critique of the language of Whitehall bureaucracy” and an examination of “the qualities of character needed to succeed and what a revolution in arts leadership might achieve”. Sounds good. But does it beat asking “What would Captain Kirk do?”
