How Nyman put Macca in the shade

How times change at Abbey Road studios, where the Beatles once reigned supreme. Composer Michael Nyman, who performed a concert of his works, such as The Draughtsman’s Contract, at the Royal Festival Hall last week to much acclaim, has received another honour.

Nyman reports on Facebook that he went to the iconic recording studios recently and “was amused to find himself with the whole of the large studio at Abbey Road while recording The Piano Sings 2 while Sir Paul McCartney had to make do with putting his string section together in the much smaller studio 2.”

But did Nyman lord it over Sir Paul? No, he says. He was “too shy” to go and say hello.
