Juvenile japes with prankster Michael Portillo

The Londoner always suspected that Michael Portillo had a wild past.

The former Cabinet minister has been telling the CAM alumni magazine about his student days at Peterhouse College, Cambridge, and recalls his favourite prank was called “removing rooms”.

“The best time to do it was if the man was out on a date with a girl,” Portillo discloses. “You’d take his carpet out and put it in the middle of Old Court. Then you’d arrange the sofa, the chairs, the bed, everything, on the carpet outside. If the man was very stylish, he would come back, half-cut, and simply get into bed in the middle of Old Court.”
