Martin Bell can make Christmas dreams come true

Dreams of a white Christmas could be yours, thanks to Martin Bell. The ex-MP and former war reporter has donated one of his iconic white suits to the Independent’s Christmas charity auction.

The Londoner was curious to know how many snowy-coloured suits Bell has stashed away. “Six,” he told me. “Two old ones from Savile Row and four newer ones from M&S. The one being auctioned dates to the Bosnian war.”

He said he was of the same opinion as Mark Twain — himself a wearer of white suits — who believed “men in dark suits look like crows.”
