Now Andy Murray's a winner he's definitely a Brit

The English are meant to love an underdog but it seems sometimes we’re just as happy laying claim to a winner. When YouGov asked English people whether they saw Andy Murray as Scottish or British during the first round of Wimbledon, only 36 per cent were eager to share a British identity with the tennis star, while 52 per cent accepted he was Scottish.

But since Murray became the first British male player to win Wimbledon in 77 years, 48 per cent now claim him as British. Scottish opinion is largely unchanged — 70 per cent thought he was Scottish before and 71 per cent think he’s Scottish now.
