Former Sunday Times reporter Marie Colvin, who died last year covering the Syrian conflict, won a special prize last night for On the Front Line, her book of collected journalism at the Orwell Prize awards.

DJ Taylor, chairman of the Orwell Trust, decided not to wear a tie which had once belonged to the great writer. “I left it in my drawer at home,” he said.
