The Scottish play is known to attract bad luck but has James McAvoy’s Macbeth been cursed by bad audiences?

First the actor berates a man who was filming the Trafalgar Studios performance on his phone. Then, last Wednesday, the production was marred by three drunken women who began to discuss the play loudly during the dramatic banquet scene.

According to a WhatsOnStage.com observer, the women were only chastised into silence after “McAvoy growled ‘Shut it’ at them in his exit from his first scene”. One of the trio stayed so quiet that — to widespread incredulity — she was soon fast asleep in her seat.
