Piers Rodgers, now Lord Rodgers, former secretary of the Royal Academy, seems to be in favour of my suggestion, endorsed by his colleagues Christopher Le Brun (RA president) and Charles Saumarez Smith (RA chief executive), that the Barbara Hepworth sculpture stolen from Dulwich Park a year ago should be recast against the wishes of the Hepworth Foundation.

“Obviously all recast sculptures are slightly different but Dame Barbara can’t have anticipated what would happen to this one,” says Lord Rodgers.

“The worst possible option is a public competition to replace it, to be decided by a committee.”
