Longing to feel that virtuous post-charity event glow but can’t bear to sweat your way through a marathon? Try joining Claudia Winkleman on her new take on fundraising. The TV presenter is leading the charge for The Ten Stores Challenge, a “sponsored event for those who prefer retail to running”.

The 10km stroll, which starts with a champagne and canapé breakfast at Fortnum & Mason and struts its way through other iconic shops before finishing at Selfridges — will raise money for Hope and Homes for Children.

A few years ago Winkleman admitted she bought most things online and hadn’t “physically been in a shop for three years because I can’t stand queuing and standing around!” How brave of her to venture back out onto the high street.
