Sealed with a very French kiss

Not entirely quenched by the champagne at Emié’s party, The Londoner decided Bastille Day was worth a second toast at L’Escargot, where a Gallic party was in full swing. Draping the stairway were singer Sam Smith, actress Camilla Rutherford and model Catalina Guirado.

The venue’s owner, Laurence Isaacson, was particularly excited to meet Rutherford. “Camilla Rutherford?” he exclaimed, “from Gosford Park? I love that film.” It’s not surprising that he has a broad dramatic knowledge — Isaacson has a place on the board at the RSC and the Ambassador Theatre Group.

He spent the evening treating his table to recitations from Hamlet, King Lear and Romeo and Juliet. Then it was adieu to Ms Rutherford with “and with a kiss I die.” “Thus with a kiss,” she corrected. Quelle horreur.
