Shankar's much-lauded warm up

The best tales are usually apocryphal.

At his first major London concert Ravi Shankar, who died yesterday aged 92, went on stage to unleash a slow barrage of notes. Cue wild applause. Bemused, Shankar said: “Thanks, that was me tuning up.”
