Sloane guru is down with club kids

Club kids are more interesting than Sloane Rangers, admitted Peter York, co-author of The Official Sloane Ranger Handbook, at last night’s V&A opening of Club to Catwalk: London Fashion in the 1980s attended by model Lisa Butcher, her daughter Amber Donoso and Jodie Kidd.

“We made them sound more interesting than they really were,” confessed York. “The whole ‘club kids’ thing was happening at the same time as the Rangers but in parallel lines. It was these Bowie-influenced, mainly white, working-class art-school kids who were fascinating.”

Downton Abbey’s Laura Carmichael said: “I was never a raver. I didn’t do the uni clubbing thing because I was at drama school, which is sort of like being in the Army.”
