Having reported on the “death of creativity in men’s dress” — the Bishop of London says it’s the fault of the lounge suit — The Londoner was delighted to run into Nicky Haslam last night, one of few men who still dares to be sartorially different.

The designer was dressed in baggy, Forties-style canvas trousers and a brown trilby hat. “I’m bringing back the Indiana Jones look,” he told us. “I’m sick of all these boys in their skinny jeans”.

Gents scared to go full explorer may prefer to take solace in actor Hugh Laurie’s advice on Twitter: “For those worried by modern dress codes, I suggest a smart flip, teamed with a casual flop.”
