Time clearly matters for our Frank

England vice-captain Frank Lampard — who says he finds the phrase “intelligent for a footballer” patronising — has been imparting some sage words of wisdom this weekend.

“Don’t be a sheep,” he tells the Saturday Times magazine. “About 10 years ago, when everyone was buying big blingy watches, I bought one too. It took me about a year to realise that, actually, I didn’t really like it. I’ve kept the watch as a reminder of what I should never be. And because no one will buy it off me.”

The Londoner applauds the footballer’s defiant stand against gaudy displays of wealth. We only wonder what Rotary, maker of chunky mid-range watches, will think. Reading to the end of the article we find that “Frank Lampard is Rotary watches brand ambassador for season 2013-14.”
