Vogue House final months marred by thievery

And a farewell team photo surprised us...
Vogue House staff say goodbye

Vogue staff popped the Champagne corks and said goodbye to Vogue House on Thursday, the magazine’s home for the past 66 years. They chose this, erm, monochromatic end-of-class photo to remember the occasion. It seemed a little at odds with outgoing editor Edward Enninful’s admirable push for diversity and inclusion.

Despite the good cheer at their farewell drinks, there was a shadow cast over the end of the mag’s tenancy, after rumours that Ray-Bans, pricey candles and other goodies had been mysteriously disappearing from the office. The Londoner hears that, after an HR intervention, a member of Condé Nast staff was let go recently.

Staff at the various titles have spent their final weeks piecing together stories of disappearing iPads, bicycles and other valuables that date back years. The scandal has marked an ignominious end to the magazine’s nearly seven-decade long tenure on Hanover Square. The Vogue team now ups sticks to share an anonymous office building with a clutch of accounting, PR and tech firms. Que sera, sera.

Stone swears by carefree lifestyle

Emma Stone got a bit sweary at a special screening of Poor Things on Thursday. “For f*** sake,” she blurted out during the Q&A, before apologising to the audience. On second thought, “you guys just watched Poor Things!” she reasoned. The 18-rated film has left many viewers open-mouthed and even prompted some to leave the cinema halfway through because of the sex scenes, blood and gore. Stone said she has been inspired by Bella Baxter, her hedonistic character in the film.

“Her lust for life, her knowledge that we’re not here for long, that we’re all one day not going to be here at all,” Stone said. “Why get sucked up into all this bullshit and not just enjoy what we have, while we have it?” The main challenge for Stone getting into the carefree role, she says, was “not judging myself, and getting to see the world through a new lens. Once I could get there more, it was the best thing ever.”

What are Robbie and Waller Bridge up to?

Margot Robbie and Phoebe Waller-Bridge
Margot Robbie and Phoebe Waller-Bridge

We spotted Margot Robbie and Phoebe Waller-Bridge having breakfast at Mortimer House Kitchen in Fitzrovia on Thursday. What could the pair have been nattering about? Academy Awards snubs, perhaps. The pair have worked together before and Robbie is an admirer of Waller-Bridge’s work. Plus Robbie runs her own production company. Could a new project be in development? After she and Barbie collaborator Greta Gerwig were left out in the cold by the Oscars, Robbie might be looking for a new creative partner.
