Chef Tamasin Day-Lewis, daughter of poet Cecil, announced her new book Smart Tart at the Tabernacle last night. Tamasin has become chief adviser to actress Julia Roberts on the creation of the perfect flan.

“Julia’s favourite is apples with cream, egg, walnut and ginger. She helps make the pastry,” she told the audience for an evening with publishers Unbound, which crowd-funds its books. Also now signed up to Unbound is Julie Burchill, who has turned her back on mainstream publishers for her next title. “They asked for a sample chapter!” Julie said. “I reacted rather as Barbra Streisand did when asked to audition for Evita: ‘I’ve been doing this since I was 17, for f***’s sake — it’s ALL OUT THERE!’”
