Boris Johnson: Ed Miliband would take us back to the 70s

Boris: Warned votes for Labour would take Britain 'back to the 70s'
Joseph Watts31 March 2015

Boris Johnson has launched a tirade at Ed Miliband, claiming the Labour leader wants to take Britain back to a time of “foul racism” and union- dominated politics.

The Mayor also said Ukip wants to go back to the Fifties, the Greens to the Bronze Age and the Lib-Dems to “any time when they are above five per cent”.

He also claimed Mr Miliband did not understand the “absolute primacy” of wealth creation being needed to tackle poverty.

After giving a speech at a think tank, he added: “He would take this country backwards to the Seventies...with an orgy of higher taxation and regulation. I remember the Seventies. I wouldn’t want to go back. It was a nasty, grim, petty epoch of really foul racism, frankly, and a union-dominated economy.”
