Boris Johnson was criticised today as it was revealed his target of 100,000 electric vehicles on the streets of London could take "centuries" to achieve.

A report from the London Assembly shows the Mayor is just two per cent of the way towards his goal of 100,000 - 2,313 vehicles.

Today's report also reveals there are only 400 charge points across the city. Mr Johnson had set a target of 25,000 by 2015. Green Party Assembly member Darren Johnson said: "Londoners suffering from asthma can't wait centuries for the Mayor's electric vehicle revolution to clean up our appalling air pollution. He has talked big but delivered hardly anything."

Environment director Kulveer Ranger said: "The Mayor is confident his ongoing plans will stimulate and support a significant uplift in electric vehicles."
