Jessie Ware today joined the call to show London is an open and international city in a showcase of its music talent and live performers.

The Standard announced how leading figures from the arts, business, sport and politics are backing the #LondonIsOpen initiative to encourage visitors and investment in the capital in the wake of the Brexit vote.

Ware joined Mayor Sadiq Khan as well as fellow artists The Vamps, Tinchy Stryder and Irish group Keywest in Trafalgar Square ahead of International Busking Day tomorrow.

Ware said: “Music is an incredibly powerful force. London’s buskers are a really important part of London’s vibrant and diverse music scene.

Mr Khan said ensuring international artists still feel welcome in London was essential to preserving the capital’s cultural and creative vibrancy.

London leads more than 50 cities around the world in celebrating music, magic, street theatre and circus skills.

Mr Khan said: “I want to send loud and clear a message that #LondonIsOpen to the world’s artists, performers, businesses, people and ideas.”
