A delighted Mayor of London boasted today that there was “finally a Johnson in Number 10”.

But he was referring to his brother, Orpington MP Jo, who has been appointed a Cabinet Office minister and head of the Prime Minister’s Policy Unit.

The role will require the 41-year-old to force Tory priorities through government, in what party figures are keen to present as a more “Thatcher-style” approach.

Boris, 48, whose ambitions are well documented, said: “Great, there is finally a Johnson in Number 10. Jo will be superb.”

Referring to his other siblings he added: “Now for Rachel and Leo.”

Rachel is a journalist and novelist and Leo an entrepreneur who advises business on environmental issues. Father Stanley said: “I’m delighted. The odds on a Tory victory must have shortened.”
