London mayor Boris Johnson is expcted to announce he will campaign for Britain to leave the EU when he reveals his decision later today.

The BBC's Norman Smith said Conservative heavyweight Mr Johnson, who was previously thought to have been "conflicted", had now made up his mind to back the out capaign.

His decision comes after PM David Cameron called a referendum for 23 June and ministers began hitting the campaign trails.

Mr Johnson will reveal the reasons behind his decision in his column in the Telegraph newspaper, which is due to be published at 10pm, according to a count-down on the paper's website.

Conservative mayoral candidate Zac Goldsmith, has also said he will vote to leave the EU, his team has confirmed.

The Prime Minister will campaign to remain in a "reformed" EU, but six of his ministers have already backed the leave campaign.
