Boris Johnson offered his congratulations to Joe Biden and said he looks forward to “working closely together on our shared priorities” after his US election victory was announced.

The Prime Minister released a brief statement on his Twitter feed following confirmation that the Democrat had crossed the 270 electoral college votes threshold needed to win the keys to the White House.

“Congratulations to Joe Biden on his election as President of the United States and to Kamala Harris on her historic achievement,” it read.

“The US is our most important ally and I look forward to working closely together on our shared priorities, from climate change to trade and security.”

London mayor Sadiq Khan also tweeted his congratulations on his - calling it “well-deserved".

“Congratulations @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris on your well-deserved win. London looks forward to working with you - it’s time to get back to building bridges, not walls."
