David Cameron’s leadership ratings have slipped since last year’s party conference, an exclusive poll for the Standard shows today.

Fewer people now see him as a capable leader with sound judgment, while more people see him as out of touch, according to the Ipsos MORI survey.

His ratings for patriotism have also dipped, which may indicate his battle to stay in the EU has angered some voters.

Most of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn’s ratings have also worsened since he started as Labour leader — although they have improved on patriotism, on how out of touch he appears with ordinary people, and whether he is more style than substance.

His biggest drop is in the share of the public who think he has “lots of personality”, down from 41 per cent to 28 per cent.

He is ahead of Mr Cameron for being seen as more honest than most politicians, at 47 per cent against 23 per cent. And only a third see him as out of touch, compared with 70 per cent who say the same of Mr Cameron.

Mr Corbyn also had the least negative net satisfaction score of the four main party leaders this month.

His net score was -5, compared with -19 for Mr Cameron, -6 for Ukip leader Nigel Farage and -8 for Lib-Dem Tim Farron.

Gideon Skinner, head of political research at Ipsos MORI, said: “Mr Cameron remains well ahead on some of the key attributes voters tell us they want to see in a prime minister, such as being capable and good in a crisis, despite rising numbers of people thinking he is out of touch and Jeremy Corbyn’s ratings as the most honest of the party leaders.”
