Jeremy Corbyn’s brother Piers today confirmed he voted for Brexit in the EU referendum as he defended his sibling’s performance as Labour leader.
Mr Corbyn, who is a controversial weather forecaster and has expressed doubts about climate change, told the Standard: “Obviously, I voted to leave. Of course.
He added: “The EU has big problems.”
Labour’s leader faces huge pressure as grassroots support for him appeared to wane and a leadership crisis engulfs the party.
Labour Left-winger Andy Slaughter, MP for Hammersmith, resigned as shadow justice minister after consulting local Labour Party members.
MPs were today voting on a motion of no confidence after 40 people resigned from Labour's frontbench in protest at Mr Corbyn's leadership during the EU referendum.
Former shadow leader of the Commons Chris Bryant even suggested that his party’s leader may have backed Brexit in the privacy of the ballot box.
But Mr Corbyn’s brother today remained defiant over Labour’s chances of winning an election under its current left-wing leader.
Asked if he backs his brother, Piers said: “Of course, he is doing extremely well and he will overcome any difficulties. I support him 100 per cent. There have been some monstrous attacks on him.”
Piers Corbyn has previously spoken out in support of leaving the EU, saying before the referendum: "I hope and believe Brexit will win and that will be best for the country."
