Jeremy Corbyn is set to appear on the BBC’s The One Show for a live TV interview - but unlike the Prime Minister, he will appear without his spouse.

Theresa May and her husband Philip were previously interviewed together on the TV show where they revealed that he is responsible for taking the bins out, while she has a lot of cookery books.

But Labour confirmed Mr Corbyn, 68, would appear for an interview without his wife Laura Alvarez, 48, on Tuesday evening’s programme.

A Labour source had previously told the Guardian that Mr Corbyn would not appear on The One Show with his wife as his family were “completely out of bounds” during the campaign.

Mr Corbyn’s appearance on The One Show comes after a car crash interview on BBC Radio Four’s Woman’s Hour in which he was left floundering over the cost of his flagship childcare pledge.

He repeatedly failed to answer and reached for his iPad after he was asked how much funding was needed for his party’s universal pledge of 30 hours per week of free childcare.

Speaking at a Labour campaign event in Watford in the afternoon, Mr Corbyn apologised for the cost omission in his earlier radio interview.

The PM and her husband were criticised by TV viewers who hit out at comments they made in the first few minutes of their interview on The One Show on May 9 when discussing how they divide up household chores into “boy jobs and girl jobs”.

They also revealed how they had become the victims of “fake news” over an erroneous claim they were expecting a baby. Mrs May has previously spoken of her disappointment that her and husband Philip were unable to have children.

Jeremy Corbyn will be interviewed on the BBC's The One Show on Tuesday evening at 7pm.
