Mr Clegg insisted: “Like everybody I massively admire your choice and you should be entirely free and proud of the choices you make in your own life to look after your own children in the way that you want.”

The help with nursery costs will go to couples who individually earn up to £150,000. Critics say househgolds iwht incomes of almost £300,000 will get relief while families with one earner on more than £50,000 are having child benefit cut.
