It’s an accolade that could go to a minister’s hips, if not her head.

Equalities Minister Lynne Featherstone has had a tub of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream named in honour of her work championing gay marriage in the coalition government.

Called Lynne Honeycomb, it carries the slogan: “Everyone deserves to live apple-y ever after.”

The laid-back American dessert firm created the pint pot after teaming up with gay rights group Stonewall to celebrate the pledge for same-sex marriages.

The MP for Hornsey and Wood Green declared herself thrilled when the tribute arrived unexpectedly in the post at her constituency office.

“In all my time in politics it is the thing that has made me smile most,” she said. “My children have posted pictures on their Facebook pages — it’s the first time they have been really proud of me.”

Ms Featherstone, 60, is an ice cream fan whose favourite is B&J’s Phish Food — a mix of chocolate ice cream with marshmallow, caramel and chocolate fish.

But disappointingly, the tub that arrived in the post was empty.

A company spokesman admitted that the ice cream flavour would not actually be available in the shops.
