Boris Johnson gaffed today when quizzed on live radio about Uxbridge, the West London suburb he hopes to represent as an MP.

The Mayor didn’t know the cost of a Tube fare between City Hall and the constituency where he plans to stand at next year’s election.

Ambushed with an Uxbridge quiz by LBC host Nick Ferrari on the Call Boris show, the Mayor, who initially refused to answer any of the questions, said: “I’m going to guess that the cash fare is £4.50.”

He then guessed £5.50 before being told that the correct fare was £5.70.

The Mayor suffered a similar embarrassment back in July when Ferrari asked him the price of a single fare for the Thames cable car.

Johnson was asked the question while taking part in a live LBC broadcast from inside the cable car, but failed to provide an answer instead replying: "It is as cheap as chips."

Challenged over whether he knew or not, he struggled to answer and asked a communications adviser for help.

Critics have slammed the £60 million cable car as a vanity project.
