Michael Gove’s cat - and his “midriff” - made a surprise appearance during a video interview today.

The Cabinet minister was being asked about quarantine hotels during a video interview on Nick Ferrari’s LBC Radio show when the family pet suddenly appeared.

“Sorry my cat has just…” he said.

Mr Ferrari responded: “I noticed that... now what is the cat’s name?”

“The cat is called Circe," Mr Gove replied, adding: "The cat is actually behind the laptop and is about to knock it over."

Mr Ferrari then said: “Aaagh...OK.... I’m now seeing your midriff Mr Gove…

"It’s not something I thought I would ever wake up to… your midriff right in full screen."

Mr Gove, increasingly preoccupied by the animal, responded: “Seriously the cat...and she is now..."

Mr Ferrari asked: “What has happened to the cat now, Mr Gove?"

Mr Gove replied: “The cat is on the mat."

In response, Mr Ferrari said: “The cat is on the mat, as long as it’s just sat on the mat, and not doing anything else on the mat, we will continue.”

Asked later whether his cat was name from Game of Thrones, Mr Gove added: “No, it’s named after Circe, the enchantress from Greek mythology.”

It is not the first time that Mr Gove’s cat has interrupted him doing an interview.
