Boris Johnson’s odds to become next Prime Minister have been slashed once again after he dominated the third ballot in the Tory leadership race.

Mr Johnson, the former foreign secretary and London mayor, received 143 votes in the vote on Wednesday.

He had previously been at 1/8, but the odds were cut to 1/10 after the results, according to Coral.

“The betting very much suggests Boris Johnson is on course to be the next Prime Minister,” said Coral spokesman John Hill.

Foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt, who came second in the ballot after receiving 54 votes, was given odds of 14/1 to become Tory leader.

Mr Gove, who came in third place with 51 votes, has odds of 16/1.

The other remaining candidate, Home Secretary Sajid Javid, is at 33/1.

There will be two other ballots among Tory MPs on Thursday, where another two candidates will be eliminated.

After this, the final two will go head-to-head in touting their credentials ahead of a vote by the entire Conservative Party membership.

Rory Stewart was voted out of the battle on Wednesday.
