Tory MP Owen Paterson has claimed people approach him on the Tube to tell him to “just get on” with Brexit.

In an interview with Channel 4 News, the Conservative MP was asked what was going to happen if the UK did not leave the EU on the long-planned planned March 29 exit date.

“If we don’t leave, this whole saga carries on,” he said.

“People would be dismayed, people come up to me on the Tube, on the trains, saying, ‘Just get on with it’.”

Theresa May was on Tuesday was preparing a letter to ask the European Union to postpone Brexit after admitting the country is facing a “crisis”.

With just 10 days to go, the Prime Minister told Cabinet she will send a letter to European Council president Donald Tusk asking for an extension of the Article 50 process.

Some critics on social media mocked Mr Paterson’s comments as they pointed out that “people don’t talk to each other on the Tube.”

Some argued that if Mr Paterson actually did use the Tube he would know that nobody talks to each other.

Another said: “I know how they feel! There’s always one clown at the barrier who can’t work their Oyster card!”

While another added: “I'll take "Things That Never Happened" for £350m a week.”
