A Tory MP had his faced slammed into the mud by a cage fighter to highlight the importance of self defence.

Backbencher Steve Baker posted the footage online after taking the beating over the weekend.

He was filmed taking on trainer Reece Coker from Combat Academy, a group which runs self-defence classes in his Wycombe constituency.

The brief clip shows Mr Baker, a former RAF engineer, calling for mercy after being flipped onto his back and pinned down.

In a second tussle, he grapples with his opponent before having his head held down in the freezing mud.

Posting the videos on his blog, Mr Baker wrote: "It seemed a good idea to obtain self-defence training from the excellent Combat Academy."

He told BuzzFeed: "I think it would be a very good for other MPs to get pummelled by a cage fighter.

"What was really painful was the damage to pride. Reece is an experienced cage fighter. As an ordinary guy with an ordinary office job, I ended up flailing around looking foolish.

"He did put me down fairly hard. But the whole point is to keep ourselves safe."
