Prince Harry made headlines last night when he opened up in a candid speech about his decision to step down as a senior royal, alongside his wife the Duchess of Sussex.

Speaking at a fundraiser for his charity Sentebale, the speech stressed the pair were “not walking away” from the British public, but also featured a sweet update on his son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.

Prince Harry revealed that his eight month old son had seen snow for the first time. He said, “It has also been a privilege to meet so many of you, and to feel your excitement for our son Archie, who saw snow for the first time the other day and thought it was bloody brilliant.”

The family also spent Christmas in Vancouver, where they were spotted by hikers when Meghan stopped to help them take a photograph.

Prince Harry also used his speech to address his changing relationship with the Royal Family, expressing his disappointment with how some aspects of it had turned out and that they had "no other option".

He said, “What I want to make clear is we’re not walking away, and we certainly aren’t walking away from you. Our hope was to continue serving the Queen, the commonwealth, and my military associations, but without public funding. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible.”

“I’ve accepted this, knowing that it doesn’t change who I am or how committed I am. But I hope that helps you understand what it had to come to, that I would step my family back from all I have ever known, to take a step forward into what I hope can be a more peaceful life,” he continued.

He also called the UK his “home and a place I love”, adding that his wife Meghan is the “same woman I fell in love with.”

Meghan has come under intense scrutiny over the past year and The Guardian recently conducted a study which found she is likely to receive twice as many negative headlines as positive ones.

Set up in conjunction with Prince Seeiso, the name is a reference to the word for ‘forget-me-not’ in the Sesotho language - the reported favourite flower of his mother Princess Diana. In fact, the floral designer for the event incorporated the bloom into his arrangements. Singer Lewis Capaldi also performed.

He referenced his mother Princess Diana in his speech, saying, “When I lost my mum 23 years ago, you took me under your wing. You’ve looked out for me for so long, but the media is a powerful force, and my hope is one day our collective support for each other can be more powerful because this is so much bigger than just us.”
