Congratulations are in order for Princess Beatrice and her husband Jack Brooksbank, who have announced they are expecting their first baby.

The royal couple revealed the news in true millennial style on Instagram, sharing a picture of tiny bear booties with the caption: 'Jack and I are so excited for early 2021....👶🏻'

The news comes almost two years after the couple wed in October 2018 in a lavish Windsor Castle ceremony.

The baby will be the Queen's 9th great-grandchild and 11th in the line to the throne, just behind its mother and ahead of the Earl of Wessex.

As Eugenie is younger than her sister Beatrice, any children Beatrice has with her new husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi would bump her and her child down the line of succession. The same goes for any further children Harry and Meghan or Kate and William decide to have.

The line of succession is as follows:

1. The Prince of Wales

2. The Duke of Cambridge

3. Prince George of Cambridge

4. Princess Charlotte of Cambridge

5. Prince Louis of Cambridge

6. The Duke of Sussex

7. Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor

8. The Duke of York

9. Princess Beatrice of York

10. Princess Eugenie of York

11. The Earl of Wessex

12. Viscount Severn

13. The Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor

14. The Princess Royal

15. Mr. Peter Phillips

16. Miss Savannah Phillips

17. Miss Isla Phillips

18. Mrs. Michael Tindall

Given the move away from formalities where royal great-grandchildren are concerned (barring the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's children) it is unlikely that Eugenie's child will have an HRH title - in addition to this, Eugenie's husband is a commoner and titles traditionally pass down the male line.

Royal author and historian Carolyn Harris told Town & Country in 2018: "Princess Eugenie's children will not have titles unless the Queen decides to bestow an earldom on Jack Brooksbank."
